Press release

The NEW JV33 delivers outstanding performance and features new inkjet head technology as well as sharing many features with the range topping, and marque defining JV5 Series.

Aimed squarely at the professional sign and graphics market, the new JV33 Series employs a specially developed high-speed piezo print head enabling it to print at a resolution of up to 1,440 dpi with a maximum speed of up to 17.5m2 per hour (540 x 720 dpi). The head contains 180 nozzles in each of 8 lines allowing for the very highest accuracy in four and six colour print modes, with or without white, and at 30% higher print speed when compared to the JV3 Series. With an adjustable head height of up to 3mm, even heavyweight banners and canvas can be output with relative ease.

The variable dot technology features three different dot sizes resulting in smooth gradients and non-grainy finish even when printing at high speed and in low resolution modes.

Mimaki JV33 Series employs a symmetrical ink arrangement in four-colour mode enabling improved bi-directional print quality.

The new Mimaki JV33 Series is equipped with Mimaki’s proven UISS (Uninterrupted Ink Supply System) for loading almost one litre of ink per colour on the machine. In four-colour mode the system utilises two cartridges per colour – thereby extending uninterrupted and unsupervised printing without operator intervention. As soon as one ink cartridge is used up, another cartridge of the same colour starts its ink supply to the system automatically. The empty cartridges can then be exchanged “on the fly”, without pausing the printer.

For several applications, such as printing on transparent or opaque media, Mimaki’s exclusive “white ink overlay print” technology can be employed. Simultaneous white and full colour printing results in incomparably bright, vivid and high density solvent print. This effect can be used to under or over-print process colours, in one smooth operation. A reverse print onto a clear static window cling, for example with an in-register white backing, is easily achieved.

For even quicker ink drying the new JV33 Series employs a triple stage intelligent heating system. A pre-heater heats up the media prior to printing, then during the print process the second print heater and a third post-heater enables even higher print quality and faster drying time, especially on uncoated media. An optional drying fan is available for speeding the drying process further prior to the printed media being wound onto the powered take-up unit.

The printer can be used either with Mimaki’s exclusive new solvent SS21 ink, ES3 eco-solvent ink, aqueous ink or dye sublimation ink. The new SS21 solvent ink delivers quick drying, high scratch resistance and excellent compatibility with a very broad range of media.

The new Mimaki JV33 is available in two sizes. The JV33-160 has a maximum print width of 1,610 mm and the JV33-130 a maximum of 1,361 mm. The printer employs Mimaki’s multipoint grit roller system and particularly long prints and print runs are supported by this accurate and secure media handling arrangement.

It is possible to further reduce environmental concerns by utilising the supplied exhaust system. This consists of exhaust fans that are attached to the front of the machine to enable the removal of solvent fumes. In very confined spaces - when more ventilation may be needed, exhaust ducts on the back of the machine are also used. Furthermore, in order to achieve a comfortable odour-less environment, the printer is supplied with an exhaust curtain, attached to the front of the machine, helping to reduce any odour even further.

Standardised 16-bit rendering - one of the big features of Mimaki’s new, and included RasterLink ProIII RIP - is the generation of smooth gradients and fine colour reproduction without tone jumps. Furthermore, RasterLink ProIII provides versatile editing functions, such as tiling, trimming, scaling and rotating. In addition, nesting of multiple images of different sizes is made possible within the new version of RIP-software. Another decisive advantage is the new possibility for Mimaki’s JV33 Series of operating in hybrid environments of Windows- and Macintosh-systems.

“The launch of the JV33 is very exciting for us,” says John de la Roche, National Sales Manager for Hybrid. “To be able to offer a machine with so many production features, outputting at such high quality and at such a competitive price is breathtaking. Print quality, machine robustness and downright competitiveness are features typically associated with Mimaki, and the JV33 does everything to perpetuate this with ease.”

The new JV33 Series is available now from stock.

Mimaki JV33 Series — Questions & Answers

Is it really that versatile? Absolutely! One printer, four inks, solvent or aqueous — the choice is yours. This machine is yet another demonstration of Mimaki’s peerless heritage in the solvent printing market, with all the convenience of offering the same machine to customers with aqueous print requirements.

What’s different between this and anyone else’s solvent printer? It’s

really the way that it combines a great value product with the sort of features previously only found in the mega printers like the JV5. The JV33 Series sports n onboard big ink supply for continuous printing, next generation print head for the highest quality (and fastest) print speeds, a triple stage heater to ensure the print is dry by the time it gets to the (included) powered takeup unit and a USB 2.0 interface for superfast data transfer.

Running costs, media, inks? The separate “Ink Costs” sheet goes into a lot  more detail, but for example a 540 x 1,080dpi print onto banner of a standard test image could cost only £1.45 per m2. Different resolutions, profi les, media and — most importantly — fi les will lead to increased or decreased costs.

Facts and figures. The JV33 is available in two sizes: the 1,371mm wide

JV33-130 and the 1,620mm JV33-160. Both machines have a maximum media weight of 25kg (enough for a 50m roll of vinyl), a 1,440dpi variable dot maximum print resolution and media cross cutter. The JV33 will take media on a 2 or 3” core and Mimaki supply full and eco solvent ink, pigmented indoor graphics and dye sublimation inks to run the machine with.

Sizes and weights. JV33-130: 2,289mm x 739mm x 1,424mm and 145kg.

JV33-160: 2,538mm x 739mm x 1,424mm and 160kg.
